Porsche 356 Parade No 22
Following our time honoured and popular tradition, the 22nd 356 Parade kicked off with a gathering at Bill Bell’s Hostelry in South Melbourne. This venue is usually packed out on a Friday night but not this year and it was good to be able to catch up with old friends and chat without being continuously jostled and having to shout (as in talk loudly). As always this is a beaut , informal evening. The regular contingents from South Australia, NSW, Queensland and New Zealand were vocally in evidence (and ACT too Peter). Diane Morrill from the 356 Registry Goody Store in the USA, again graced our event with her presence.

I wear a tie once a year, to our annual cocktail party, so this year I thought I would buy a 356 motif tie from Diane from her Goody Store – not so! Diane can no longer source these! Damn.

South Australian Update:
We have been rather busy over the border with both official 356 runs and a few other motoring events thrown in as well.

The Classic Bay to Birdwood was the first run that some members participated in. This is a run that attracts approximately 1800 cars of various makes. The day started off cloudy and cool, no rain however and we had a leisurely drive from Glenelg to Birdwood in the Adelaide Hills on a large section of closed roads. We had lunch and a concourse d’elegance.

Our next event saw a small group drive to the Clare Valley for a barbecue lunch at Keith Poole’s vineyard. We all met at Gepps Cross and the trip did include the essential stop off at a couple of wineries to sample some wonderful Rieslings and the odd Shiraz. The “shed” at Keith’s which was every mans dream also was the home to several Volkswagens, 356’s and early 911’s. There was even a 356 belonging to Leon Blackman’s brother Lyall waiting on the rotisserie for the hands of the “expert” to transform it to its former glory. With plenty of car candy, the boys were not disappointed and found lots to talk about. I’m sure we all went home with ideas of how we could get such a shed on that house block. Do we really need the house when we could have “that”

Shannons Eastern Creek Classic 2007:
0n 26th August twenty early examples of Porsche excellence submitted themselves for display and scrutiny by other enthusiasts and the public.

This once a year classic is organized by the CMC of NSW, sponsored by Shannons and controlled by the ARDC.

Our group made up of the 356 Register and PCNSW members, consisted of Dave Nichols 550 Spyder, Geoff Boyd, Michael Cassimaty, David Cockcroft, Peter Lonergan, Geoff Thomas, Craig Lettington and Michael Kent all in 356s. Paul Brian Richards all in 911s. Ken Smith and family in a 924 and Rod Cooper in a 944.

Around mid day a further twenty club cars arrived from their south coast breakfast run and many of the members occupied the spare seats of the display group cars on their 1.5 lap drive around the circuit. This is a special moment for those who have never been on the track, all be it at a controlled pace.
