Chassis # 83727 is one of only 2 Carrera GS Speedsters made by Porsche in
RHD, with the other being a GS/GT. It was originally delivered to Irvin
Rockman, a wealthy Australian Hotelier, via Hamilton Porsche Australia. With
a known history of owners and an impressive file of receipts and documents,
this car has been rightfully treated as a trophy for much of its life.
Over 2500 hours were spent restoring the car in the early 1990's, it may
have been then that the car was changed from its original Rubin Rot (Ruby
Red), to the uber-cool Silbermetall (Silver Metallic) it now sports. The car
completely dominated the Porsche show scene for quite some time, winning
Australia's Porsche National Concours outright in 1992, 1993, and taking
peoples choice in 1992, 93 and 94, before the then owner decided to retire
her, while it was still on top.
The Carrera Speedster has done little use since, other than occasional
drives through the hills and entering the odd car show (Driven of course!)
to show that she still has what it takes to win. The 4 Cam engine, rebuilt
by RennSport, is both strong and in good order, but most importantly it
sounds magnificent through the "Pea Shooter", GS/GT type exhaust system it
utilises. Anything above 4000 RPM is truly a memory you will take to your
grave... What a car!!!
Chassis #83727 is near flawless, both mechanically and cosmetically, and
would suit the most discerning of Porsche Collector's, who are looking for
the ultimate Porsche to enjoy and reap the long term benefits of this rare,
beautiful and desirable 356. Price $585, 000 AUD.
